Rochester Cello Society

The Rochester Cello Society is an all-inclusive group of cellists in the Rochester, NY area. Cellists (students and professionals) and lovers of cello music are all invited to join. Events like cello ensemble reading, concerts and recitals, and masterclasses will be periodically planned throughout the year. This is all in the spirit of bringing cellists together and creating positivity in the community.

Improvisation Workshop with Esther Rogers Baker

Join cellist and creative facilitator Esther Rogers Baker for a fun workshop in improvisation for cello! We will explore ways we can create sound on our cellos inspired by texture, word, form, color, and movement. Come play games, try new things, work together, have fun, and see what happens!  No prior improvisation experience is necessary. 
 
This workshop is for cellists in Suzuki Book 2 or NYSSMA Level 2 and higher.  Suggested age range is age 10 and up, but younger students with the maturity to follow instructions and work nicely with others are invited, too.  Please bring your cello and a rock stop. No music stand required! 
 
Cost is $20 per player, cash at the event. To participate, RSVP to roccellosociety@gmail.com or respond “Going” to the Facebook event by Wednesday, June 5.

Esther Rogers Baker is a classically trained cellist who plays experimental and contemporary music, has a passion for Bach and traditional chamber music, and enjoys improvising with musicians and artists from different backgrounds and genres.
